5 Survival Items You Should Carry on You Every Day Every Where
79What You Don't Know Can Kill You?
I’m sorry but that is a harsh reality. I’m Jack Jobe, a “Common Sense” survival teacher. History warns us, pioneers taught us, Katrina showed us and the Boy Scout's moto reminds us BE PREPARED!
Your Life depends on What You Carry - and Knowledge.

Everyone wants to Survive - The Wise Are Prepared
No one knows which disaster to prepare for! IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE, you must be prepared for “Everything”. That’s crazy – at one level – and yet – shouldn’t you be prepared every day? Think about Earthquakes, Karina, wind damage, car accidents, plane crashes, building collapses, people lost, animal attacks, terrorists, gas line explosions, and hundreds of other dangers. Plus, you could be called on to save lives. Do you know first aid? Everyone should. Do you know the best foods and water to stock for Survival disasters?
A simple trick to begin with is: When you go buy food at the store, buy one extra can, or box of each item - if you can. Keep a black or blue marker in your pantry. DATE EVERYTHING and keep the oldest at the front, or on top, to be used first. You'll eventually build up a stock pile. PS: I've specified in my will that if I'm the last in my direct family, the food will go to The Food Bank of The Rockies.
If our Power Grid fails, How Would You Heat and Cook for your Family?
Be Prepared - and hope disasters never happens
How would you survive without electricity? How many days worth of food do you have and how would you prepare it? WORSE: How much water do you have ON HAND per person and pets? What would you do for heat?
You Need Basic Survival Training
What happens if your community suddenly has no Utilities? Could you make a fire by hand? Take care of cuts and other injuries? Build a shelter? Purify water? Grow a garden? Butcher your own meat safely? AT LEAST, Learn 1st Aid - You Are Your Doctor in An Emergency.
Your First Lesson in Survival Thinking
KNOW - IF roads are destroyed or transportation restricted, "I may have to walk long distances with my ‘gear’ to get home, or reunited with my family." Get in better shape.
Ounces add up to Pounds and Pounds add up to Pain.
A Cheap First Step to Save Yourself in the event of an Emergency
5 Things To Always Carry
# 1 – A Whistle
Yes, that may surprise you but think. Buildings fall down from Earthquakes, Wind Storms like Hurricanes and Tornadoes, terrorists, cranes collapsing, Natural Gas Explosions, trains, trucks or airplanes slam into them. The Problem: rescuers don’t know where to dig BUT if you can breathe, you can whistle. If you are lost, whistle. Encounter a wild animal, whistle. An adult or child being abducted could whistle. It’s around my neck or beside me.
Dehydration Is Your Enemy
# 2 – A Full Bottle of Survival Water– in addition to your regular drinking bottle.
See # 1 – lost, trapped or buried - Buy the idea of planning ahead
What Do You Have On You?
# 3 – A Multi-Function Tool (from the classic Swiss Army Knife™ to modern, belt sized, combination tools) for every day Emergencies.
If you ever
need a knife, corkscrew, scissors or a screwdriver …… and if you ever need a saw to cut firewood or bone, … This is a tool box and surgical hospital in an Emergency.
Asthma Inhaler
Support the Red Cross - Full First Aid Kit List at their site
# 4 – a ‘small’ Individualized First Aid Kit for your personal needs (Remember: the miners in Chili. The one who was in the worst shape was diabetic and had no medicine until the probe hit their chamber.) Do you have special requirements – medicine is obvious? I carry a spare pair of glasses (my most recent ‘old’ ones) and my wife carries two inhalers for her asthma.
All Of This Survival Equipment Under $60 including:
#5 – Protective Weather Gear – a poncho and space blanket
Keep dry and warm. Ponchos can fit in the pocket of your jacket, backpack or medium to large purses. The famous, NASA ‘space blanket’ can hold in about 90% of your heat. People with 'temperature controls' forget that even the desert gets cold at night. These are smaller.
Any Survival Expert could build on that list AND I will in the future.
Now the choice is yours. You must decide. “In the future, I want the best chance of surviving anything,” or “I’ll bury my head in the sand and pretend the world isn’t hostile.”
Think --- IF the power grid failed and a millionaire were going to have to walk 10 miles home to defend their family, would they rather have $100,000 in cash or my 5 survival items above?

I was taught in Girl Scouts the importance of being prepared as well. It's smart to think ahead and have a plan just in case the unthinkable happens. Taking courses in first aid, CPR and survival skills may well save your life and lives of others around you. Great informational hub!

Excellent points. Wish more people were prepared to take care of themselves in case of emergency. Us Americans have gotten lazy, relying on police, fire and emergency crews to save us whenever anything goes wrong. When big disasters hit, those services are swamped and we need to be self reliant!
